Preparations for the Bihar Election 2025 are set to gain momentum as the Supreme Court has given the green light to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The apex court today allowed the ECI to proceed with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across the poll-bound state.
This crucial process involves updating the voter list to ensure it is accurate and current. This means adding eligible new voters who have turned 18, removing names of deceased voters, and correcting any errors in voter details.
An accurate electoral roll is the bedrock of a free and fair election, and this judicial clearance removes a significant hurdle for the election commission.
While there had been discussions regarding the timing of this exercise, the Supreme Court’s decision now sets a clear path forward. With this go-ahead, the ECI can now focus on preparing a clean and reliable voter list, a foundational step for conducting the upcoming Bihar assembly polls smoothly and transparently.
